Overview

The Principal DevOps Engineer will be responsible for leading Engineering projects and will provide input into the development of new infrastructure architecture, critical organizational initiatives and the implementation of core infrastructure systems.  The Principal Engineer will also act as a key liaison to the Security Office through which they will ensure infrastructure and shared services meet security and compliance requirements.  This role will work in a team environment with other Engineers and Architects as well as key Operations personnel and provide guidance to other Engineering staff. This role requires an individual who can successfully work across multiple levels – with customers, teammates, vendors, and Executive Management. The Principal Engineer must possess a comprehensive understanding of IT infrastructure combined with the ability to execute technical solutions that meet the needs of the Organization.   Additionally, the Principal Engineer will act as an escalation point within the Engineering team and provide Subject Matter Expertise on one or many core technologies supporting product and Architectural designs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values.
  • Designs and runs bakeoffs, proof of concept tests, pilot tests, integration tests and acceptance tests
  • Leads build effort for new Public Cloud or other shared infrastructure deployments
  • Works with Architects on selecting new technologies and creating infrastructure design documents
  • Reviews infrastructure design for security best practices and compliance
  • Builds and maintains lab and pilot environments
  • Creates System Design documents
  • Creates Operational Documentation
  • Escalation point for complicated or critical production issues
  • Mentor to other staff members to broaden technical expertise across the team
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise in one or many technologies
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in technology fields
  • Experience working in a high availability, service provider environments
  • Strong System Administration experience (Linux/UNIX and/or Windows)
  • Strong networking foundations and experience 
  • Experience designing and implementing complex environments 
  • Ability to design and execute pilot tests
  • Experienced with program/projects involving complex integration of disparate technologies/platforms
  • Analytical thinker, with ability to solve problems
  • Expert documentation skills
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related discipline
  • 5 + years of experience in a Virtualized environment with VMware, Xen, or Hyper-V
  • 5+ years in Senior Engineering or Operations role 
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery planning and implementation
  • Experience providing or supporting multi-tenant, public cloud solutions
  • Experience with Provider networking and datacenter technologies
  • Applicable certifications (MCSE, RHCP, VCP, CCNP, CCNA, EMC Proven Professional, NCDA etc)
  • Previous service provider experience, strongly preferred

It’s important to note the pay range may be narrower than displayed, as various factors are used to determine the offered compensation package including skill set, level of experience, geographic locations, and other relevant factors- i.e. budgetary requirements.
Pay Range $127,000.00- $195,459.25
