Overview

The Sr Systems Engineer – Network role is responsible for designing, building and supporting the Tierpoint network. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate senior level expertise in multiple SME areas such as network routing, switching, firewall, and load balancing technologies. This individual must also have the ability to work closely with internal and external customers and translate complex technical issues into common language. It is expected in this position you will have the ability to lead deployment of new products, features, or otherwise new technical components, and will be responsible to assist in the documenting and training of these items to other Engineers, as well as be a continued escalation point to assist as a Subject Matter Expert.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company Values.
  • Provides clear and accurate communications with internal customers regarding the status of their requests in a timely fashion.
  • Completes projects on time. Capable of breaking down large projects into logical components and implements them with attention to detail and required documentation.
  • Provides clear & accurate communications to the participating project manager regarding assigned tasks in order to meet implementation deadlines and objectives.
  • Alerts supervisor and Client Services representative of any hardware or networking issues impacting delivery of services. 
  • Develops documentation of environments to accurately reflect the as-built information of the solution design and includes details of network connections and IP/port assignments, firewall configurations, monitoring components, exceptions from default, and special customer requirements.
  • Consult with customers regarding network performance problems, ideas for design improvements, planning their environment turn-up, etc.
  • Suggests future products as well as offer enhancements for existing products.
  • Will be considered to be SME for assigned projects and assist all other engineers on the team with questions regarding the customer or environment, in order to ensure a smooth transition into Tierpoint EOC and/or Managed Service Operations.
  • Responsible for writing and reviewing MOP’s as a part of the Tierpoint change management process.
  • Provides operational support of the Tierpoint core network infrastructure as well as offer recommendations for improving overall network performance.
  • Provide technical assistance, training and mentoring to other engineers/technicians.
  • Act as point SME for new products, both documenting and training of other engineers.
  • Suggest, recommend, and participate in “future looking” projects and improvments.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands on network/security experience working in IT operations.
  • Experience using a ticketing system or project management work tracking, notation keeping, and internal communications
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Expert level understanding of core networking technologies including:
    • Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF and IS-IS
    • Routing and switching infrastructure from Cisco, Juniper, Arista.
    • Layer 2 technologies such as Spanning Tree, STP, RSTP, etc.
    • EVPN, VXLAN, MPLS
  • 8+ years of production support and design of the above technologies
  • 6+ years of experience with network security technologies and best practices
  • 6+ years of production support for two or more of the major firewall platforms below:
    • Cisco ASA
    • Fortinet Fortigate
    • Juniper SSG and ISG products
    • Check Point NGX
    • Palo Alto
  • Expert level network troubleshooting skills utilizing packet capture/analysis packages such as Wireshark, etc.
  • Experience using the following: Python, Jinja, Ansible, Git
  • Experience writing design and implementation documents, Visio drawings, process documents, customer statements of work, etc.
  • Obtained or willing to obtain relevant industry certifications (i.e., CCNP, CCIE, JNCIE, CISSP, etc.).
  • Adequate professional experience and knowledge to perform job responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work both independently and with others
  • Ability to operate in a fast moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment with tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite and Windows-based computer applications

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with virtual environments, specifically NSX-T
  • Experience as Sr. Network resource, or Lead, involving mentoring, training, and ownership of solution delivery.
  • Experience supporting large scale data center infrastructure environments.
  • Recent experience with network virtualization technologies such as virtual firewalls, virtual load balancers, MPLS VRFs, Nexus 1000V, etc.
  • Experience supporting the networking requirements for Multi-tenant environments.
  • 5+ years of support and design of load balancer implementations including:
    • Kemp
    • F5
    • A10
  • Experience and knowledge of network monitoring/management technologies (SNMP, Netflow, syslog, monitoring applications, etc.)
  • Expert level knowledge of DNS
  • Advanced knowledge of network monitoring/management technologies (SNMP, Netflow, syslog, monitoring applications, etc.) tool.
  • Experience with various operating systems including Windows and various flavors of LINUX
  • Cisco CCNP or CCIE Certification and/or other advance level industry certifications.

TierPoint is committed to practices that promote pay equity and transparency. We provide a compensation range for roles that may be hired in locations with pay transparency law requirements.
It’s important to note the pay range may be narrower than displayed, as various factors are used to determine the offered compensation package including skill set, level of experience, geographic locations, and other relevant factors- i.e. budgetary requirements.
Pay Range $111,716.54- $167,574.81
